HEAD COACH, PORTUGAL FUTSAL
Jorge Braz was born in Edmonton (Canada). He made his debut as a coach of the National Team on 23 September 2003, but only from July 2006 did he become a fixture in the national team coaching set-up, as an assistant coach to Orlando Duarte. In July 2010 he became Portugal coach. First coming into contact with Futsal in the early 1990s, after working in eleven-a-side football, Jorge Braz immediately fell in love with the sport, especially the technical aspect. “Having the power to formulate dynamics, establish a collective language, specify the game plan, lending it quality and intensity, being part of the evolutionary process of the game and having the privilege of doing all of this in training… It’s fantastic!” he says.
His path to a coaching career began in 1997, at the University of Minho, where he studied until 2001. He then continued his learning from 2001 to 2003 at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) before returning to the University of Minho, where he remained until 2004. He worked at the Jorge Antunes Foundation between 2004 and 2007, achieving third place in the 1st Division National Championship. In terms of trophies, he has won a Men’s University World Cup and was runner-up in the Women’s University World Cup. Jorge Braz is a Physical Education graduate, obtaining his degree at the University of Porto, and has a Master’s Degree in Sports Sciences, in the specialization of High-Performance Sports Training.
